These Are A Few of My Favorite Things: Vegan Chicken Part 1

These Are A Few of My Favorite Things: Vegan Chicken Part 1

Chicken was one of my favorite things as a non-vegan. Especially chicken nuggets. Back when I went vegan in 2018, there were not many vegan chicken options around me. Luckily, vegan products have exploded and there are so many options for everything.
One of the first vegan chickens I tried was by the brand Boca. It was the Boca Original Chik'n Veggie Patties. I loved them! They are one of the closest vegan chicken products I have had thus far. It has this smoky flavor to it that other vegan chickens do not have. They have 11 grams of protein per patty which is a reasonable amount given they are 130 calories per patty. Boca makes two different kinds of the Chik'n Patty. One is in a red box and the other is in a yellow and purple box. They are mainly the same thing except the yellow box one has approximately 300 fewer milligrams of sodium which is a big deal when you primarily eat frozen food. I actually prefer the yellow box; I am not sure if anything is different or if it is just a placebo effect, but it tastes a lot better to me. They also have a spicy version which I have not tried because I am not a spicy food person, but knowing their brand, I have confidence in saying it is most likely just as good. Interestingly enough, the Spicy Chik'n Veggie Patty has 12 grams of protein and 340 milligrams of sodium. I was able to find all of these products at my local Kroger and Walmart for about $3.72 for four patties.
One of the next brands I tried was Morningstar Farms. It is a very popular brand and has definitely grown since 2018, and is on track to be a completely vegan brand sometime this year! I have had the Original Veggie Chik Patties. I also liked this product and continue to still eat it. These patties only have 9 grams of protein, 170 calories, and 320 milligrams of sodium. They also have a Buffalo Chik Patties which I also have not tried, but I have a friend who has tried them and the verdict is "they are so good." I was also able to find both of these products at my local Kroger and Walmart for $3.67 for four patties.
The other brand of vegan chicken patties I have tried is the Earth Grown Vegan Chickenless Patties from Aldi. These patties are fairly good; I am not going to say they are terrible, but there are better vegan chicken patties. The patties are around 150 calories, 10 grams of protein, and 300 milligrams of sodium putting it at number one on my list for the lowest amount of sodium. I cannot remember exactly how much I paid for them, but I believe it is around $3.49 for a box of four patties. This product also wins the lowest price award.
Out of all of these vegan chicken patties, I would have to say my favorite is the Boca brand in the yellow box. It has a good amount of protein and sodium, and it reminds me of a chicken patty the most. I like to enjoy all of these products on a hamburger bun with pickles, on a biscuit with jelly, and I will even cut the patty up and throw it into pasta, salads, and other dishes I think they would be good in.
